- Constitutional reform. Citizens
Alliance recognises that it is absolutely ecessary to bring about
constitutional reform in order to achieve maximum participation
in governance. Citizens Alliance will continue consultation on issues
of: local government reform, the structure of the Senate, the balance
of power between the Executive and the Parliament, the power of
the President, channelling
power and resources to communities, transparency of cabinet
decisions and structures for increasing participation by citizens.
- Transparency.
Citizens Alliance is committed to creating a culture of transparency
and accountability. The mechanisms for participation must rely on
on the free flow of information on all aspects of the operations
of government and the individuals elected to serve.
- The
base-up approach. Citizens Alliance will develop a method
of governance that has at its core, participation by everyone. We
recognise that government and its agents SERVE the citizens. We
understand that citizens define the agenda for the distribution
of resources and the management of development. Citizens Alliance
will decentralise so that communities have more power.
- Equity.
Principles of fairness and equity inform all the actions, decisions
and methodologies of Citizens Alliance.
