Frequently Asked Questions
-
Q. How long have you been building websites and maintaining their content?
A. It's been more than 10 years..
I started off as an assistant webwaster working for a local ISP and then continued as a freelance professional for hire when I returned from working abroad as an Information Systems Manager aboard a cruise line. I've had many opportunities but fast forward to today, I still have a handful of clients with whom I am contracted for content maintenance. For the most part I'm self taught by hands on trial and error and completing a scattering of courses over the years.

Q. Who are your clientele and what can I expect coming onboard?
A. Historically, clients have ranged from private individuals with personal computers and printers who access the internet at cable modem and DSL speeds to small nusiness/companies with hybrid wired-wireless/mac-pc networks with websites that need to be updated to reflect current events. Typically they are independent professionals, small business men and women, consultants and entrepreneurs with companies, law offices and professional retirees.
Expect to be asked many questions about what you hope to accomplish with a website that reflects your plans & goals. For your feedback, we will likely create a mockup that you can access to speed up finalization of a design. We do make notes for future reference (for troubleshooting & resolving issues) that we share and that will be stated on your invoices. Once your account is paid up, you will access to a zipped version of your artwork, site, etc.. for you to download. -
Q. How long do websites take to build & test?
A. Based on agreement, build time is directly correlated with the size of a website as well as backend prerequisites (domain name registration, web hosting account setup, features requiring databases and data entry, etc..) which take a couple working days up to twenty-one (21) working days.

Q. How long do content updates take?
A. That would depend on the nature of the update when the number of pages, images, text, urgency, etc. are factored in. Same day to two (2) working days is typical
-
Q. Are websites accessible on all devices?
A. Modern HTML5 websites are responsive in that they dynamically scale to the size of the screen they are being viewed on. The content (for all devices) is the same in code but would look different viewed on a desktop vs a laptop vs a tablet vs a smartphone. Note too that Internet websites are accessed more ny smartphones compared to desktops & laptops.
Also, so websites load fast, images should be optimized so that they have acceptable viewing quality but are small in file size. -
Q. Do websites require repairs and maintenance?
A. Very rare but sometime they do in the case of data corruption occuring on the web & database servers.
Typically on the low end, there are broken links, missing images and scripts requiring the examination of code, logs, etc.. for the restoration of normal function (without the backend and onscreen user interface web errors).
If there are web server issues, we do share with website owners trouble tickets updates by email.
Routine Backend maintence is usually invisible to site visitors and runs on a schedule after hours.
If there are server upgrades that may interrupt service however, we always give site owners as well as online visitors a heads up about planned maintenance date/time windows. -
Q. Why do you recommend Alternative Software?
A. We should a choice in using what fits our budget and respects our privacy. More importantly, Alternative software tends to be chaeaper (often free).
Also, it is not uncommon that mainstream "software giants" take a monopolistic approach to their paying customers. Software is now mostly available as a service and software service providers will often resort to restricting customers' access to their content if customers don't agree with updated terms of service or unjustified subscription increases.
There are a lot of free (of charge and to use commercially/privately) titles that are regularly supported and in the case of productivity apps like office suites, are compatible in terms of features and can open and convert most file formats.
Remember that "Open Source" means to that users contribute freely to its improvement and the code can be examined to confirm that there is no telemetry ("phoning home") so that your data remains private. -
Q. What forms of payment do you accept?
A. We gratefully accept Cash, Certified Check & Direct Bank Deposit.
Our Terms are payment in full within thirty days of completion of jobs. Where a grace period has been given to ensure stability of web servers, page loads without errors, etc.. and clients have been invoiced at a later date, payment will become due in 15 days.
More details are outlined in our Site's Terms and Conditions of Use/Service.
